There are bodies of water located in North America, such as the Mississippi river.
Region- an area that shares one or more characteristics

Equator- an imaginary circle around Earth, halfway between the North and South Poles.
The equator circles the Earth from east to west.

Government, parks, borders, population, and bridges are a few examples of human characteristics.
Community- a group of people who live in the same area.
People who live in one area form a community.
Population- the number of people who live in an area.
A community shares some human characteristics, such as population.
Nation- a group of people under one government.
The USA is a nation.
Borders- imaginary lines that show where one nation ends, and another begins.
There are borders separating each state in the USA.

The Savannah harbor is a busy port in Savannah, Georgia because people like to take their boat there for vacation.
Port- a place where ships can load and unload the supplies they carry
The Boston harbor was a very busy port during the 1700s.
Environment- all the physical and human characteristics of a place
The environment of Atlanta has changed since the 1900s.
